Tarn
Tauriac

Details of the activity

This picturesque aerial lacework resulting from the genius of the engineer Paul Bodin spans the Viaur valley. Also, it is one of the 3 most important metal works of the 19th century in France with the Garabit Viaduct and the Eiffel Tower Following a competition opened in 1887 (to engineers including Gustave Eiffel) , the project was attributed to the engineer Paul Bodin of the Société de construction des Batignolles (today Spie Batignolles), and built by him between 1895 and 1902. The bridge was inaugurated on October 5, 1903. The railway viaduct of the Viaur, which flows 116m below, 460m long, is a metallic structure which by its boldness makes it one of the most important in France. The central arch is 220 m. This central arch is made up of 2 symmetrical frameworks buttressing each other by means of an articulated key in its center. It is the only construction of this type in France.
