Between Albi and the Gorges du Tarn, the valley draws here a loop of three kilometers forming an impressive rocky peninsula. Ambialet nestles on this strip of land and reveals its spectacular panorama. From the Celts to the Counts of Toulouse, passing through the crusade against the Albigensians, this geographical location encouraged men to come and take refuge there and establish their power there. A turbulent history On this unique site in Europe Gauls, Romans and English followed one another to find iron. The counts of Albi built a fortress, the monks a priory and a Romanesque chapel. A steep situation On this rugged terrain, the city has evolved into two faces over the course of history: Ambialet-le-bas and Ambialet-le-haut.
